Our school offers the opportunity to develop skills and techniques in woodturning that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.  Woodturning is a hobby that will give you hours of pleasure, as well as gifts you can share with others.

It’s amazing that our nation’s number one renewable resource also captures our imagination when it comes to making usable products.  The art of wood turning takes wood to another level where a piece of wood becomes a piece of art but may be used in many practical ways as well.

Beginning and intermediate turners start by taking a piece of freshly cut wood from a tree.  The students learn techniques and skills needed to create a beautiful and unique wooden piece on a turning lathe.  Note the progression in the pictures below:
 

A lathe is available for each student. The instructors will demonstrate the various techniques needed and assist students individually.  Each student will go home with their own creations.

For beginning students wood turning is an opportunity to develop a new skill.  For students who already have abilities in woodturning, Can Do Woodworking can help increase proficiency.

Above all, we are hopeful that when students complete Can Do Woodworking classes, they have experienced “good times with wood.”
